This book only gets two stars, cuz, honestly, that's all it was. Okay.
Don't get me wrong. I love me some werewolf, and there is jason.
but, I don't know, I guess I was kind of worked up for this series to be way more interesting and in-sucking than it turned out to be.
I mean, there was some mystery here. there was magic. there were werewolves. by all rights, i should've loved it.
But, I don't know, I was wasn't as enthralled with the characters as i should've been.
If, by the second book in the series, you're not excited and desperate to get the ending, than that book is missing. that's what I think, anyway.
Yeah. so, I actually had all three books checked out from the library. usually, this would mean I feel obligated to the third book, but honestly, school is starting next week, and i have a dozen other books checked out right now, and i need to finish them, so I can't waste another three days on a book.
yeah.
If you're interested, this book TRIED to end on a cliffhanger. but the cliffhanger wasn't very cliffhanger-y or even original. I have seen more than a couple moving gargoyles in my day.

p.s. In other news completely unrelated to this book, Did anyone else watch the Falling Skies season 2 finale a couple days ago? And, if so, is anyone else upset that Hal is now EVIL?????

(YA) This book takes off from where the last book finished. Scout and Lily are still in school, still fighting the Reapers, but new evil's come and really challenge the team. Vampires that are not the sparkly sweet hearts from other YA books and something just gross and unknown to our heros. They have to figure out haw to live through this, what they are trying is not working. Jason and Lily continue to develop a relationship, but some truths are revealed that may end it all. I am most interested in Sebastian's future role in the story.
This 2nd book was much better than the first. I am looking forward to the third ( )

I really like this series. I love the friendship and dynamic between Scout and Lily, they are so cute and funny together. I love all of the characters in this series, they are all very vibrant for YA fiction and they stick with you for a long time after you close the cover. I also enjoy the dynamic between Scout and Lily in conjunction with the brat pack and with the boys, Chloe Neill has a wonderful talent for writing excellent relationships.

The plot, or rather the climax of this book was a tad bit off for me. I had a hard time pinpointing where it was. I was just reading, there was drama, stuff happened, and then the book was done. I didn't get the "oh no, stuff is about to hit the fan" feeling, nor did I get the satisfaction of a nice well rounded ending because of the climactic moment. I am not saying the plot is bad, or that I didn't enjoy it, just something I noticed and I hadn't realized how much book structure meant to me.

As I said, I enjoyed the characters in this book, and I enjoy the world that Chloe Neill has created and superimposed on our own. I can't wait to see where she takes this series, there are so many things she can do, and so much growing for a lot of the characters. This book also showed us another side of the Dark Elite and I even believe caused Lily to do some doubting of the Adepts. I love the layer of conflict Ms. Neill is setting up for Lily, can't wait to see where she takes that as well.

Overall this is a short entertaining read and I will definitely keep reading Chloe Neill, she has a lot of stuff to still bring to the table. ( )

I found this extremely slow. It was close to 250 pages, and honestly I felt like the story could have been told in half that many pages. Their all kind of passive aggressive and annoying. ( )

This is the second book in the Dark Elite series from Chloe Neill. I started reading this series because the publisher sent me two ARCs (yes, there is a chance one will be yours in the very near future) of book three, Charmfall and it looked good enough that I wanted to dive in at the beginning. While Firespell seemed to be over just as it began, Hexbound picks up right where things left off, and the action continues to roll.

In Firespell Lily is discovering her world; in Hexbound Lily is living in it and beginning to question it. I love Chloe Neill's writing style. I love the wit and the banter between Lily and Scout. The mysteries and little sub-plots are fascinating. I love that Neill can mention just a part of St. Sophia's school day, but with a few snide or flippant comments from the girls, it feels fully inclusive. My only complaint with these books is that they're too short. There is such a wealth of story in the plot and the characters, I wish she'd expand upon everything and double the length of each book, because believe me, everyone would still be captivated. That being said, at no time do I feel the story is lacking, I just really want to know more!

I think this would be a great series for a reluctant reader. It's short, to the point, and never lagging. I look forward to starting the recently released Charmfall in the next few weeks...
