New York Timesbestselling author Cheyenne McCray sets the night on fire in her blazing-hot Night Tracker series--where the fangs come out when the sun goes down... Vampire attacks are on the rise in the city that never sleeps. So why is half-human, half-Drow private eye Nyx tracking down Sprites? Sure, these "young bloods" are causing mischief all over town--like painting the Statue of Liberty's toenails neon pink. But it's not until Nyx finds herself at the Pit, Manhattan's hottest nightclub for paranorms, that she understands what she's really up against... Seems Master Vampire Volod has a plan--and the Sprites are in on it. By targeting the weaknesses of every paranorm in the city, from Elves to Shifters to Zombies, Volod and his fang gang aim to rule the night once and for all.Over Nyx's dead body. She loves a good challenge--and she will seduce danger at every turn to throw Volod off course. It's time for Nyx to enter the beating heart of this dark conspiracy...before driving a stake through it.… (mais)

When I started this series, I thought it had a lot of potential. Sadly, it has not lived up to that potential. In the 3d book, we find half Drow Nyx facing off with the Vampires. Problems raged rampant in this book from dialogue (cheesy and repetitive) and story development (there really wasn't any except the tired and true Vampires = bad). My main problem with the series has been the character development, because there really hasn't been any, despite that Nyx and Adam have professed their love for each other. But that in itself is not character development.

Throughout, Nyx fluctuates between kick-ass Drow warrior and overly emotional female. Yes, I appreciate that McCray is trying to humanize Nyx, but it goes too far. Nyx voluntarily goes into the Vampire compound by herself, then freaks out, getting all scared and emotional because she did and almost gets herself killed. She varies between extremes, which makes it feel flat and fake. Furthermore, Nyx really hasn't changed in the three books - no growth whatsoever. Granted, the events in all three books seem to happen back-to-back, but still. Plus, the constant whining about being called purple. Someone, maybe Olivia, should slap her and say get over it already. Amethyst is in the violet family. I think McCray is trying to use this as a catchy thing, but in book 3, it's just coming across as whiney and irritating.

Olivia, Nyx's partner in their PI business and fellow tracker, has been relegated way off stage. She hardly appeared in this book, and when she did, she was flat - only snippy and sarcastic. No real depth. This is sad because I like Olivia and thought she had a lot of potential. Nyx keeps reminding us that Olivia is human, and therefore too fragile to get involved, but then turns around and says that no human has ever been chosen to be a Tracker, except for Olivia, which is a big deal. So, which is it? Fragile human or kick-ass human? Again, flip-flopping extremes, so it's understandable why Olivia has been moved staged right because otherwise, she'd end up in a straight jacket due to the extreme personality differences. Adam is the same way, except his character is more of the protective golden lab type. His whole function is to support Nyx and give a good erotic scene when needed. In this book, both Olivia and Adam could have been cut completely out and no one would know the difference. Other than Nyx, Olivia and Adam are supposed to be main secondary characters, but combined, their scenes barely make a chapter. It was all very Nyx-centric this time around, which is another reason I think it failed.

As I have the next 2 books in the series, I will give it a chance and hopefully see some improvements. But after Vampires Not Invited, I'm not too hopeful. ( )

It seems that Nyx and vampires are not destined to be friends. Ever. They want to take overt the world, beginning with New York City. Nyx isn't having that, but it is going to take a lot of drive to stop them.

This is a traditional bad guy, pretty nice girl who is a Warrior, a guy who loves her and is human and various other folk. It especially speaks of Sprites - usually the bottom of the Fae barrel but somehow they may be more than they seem.

Great story! ( )

I didn't enjoy this book as much as the previous two, Demons Not Included and No Werewolves Allowed. (A telling fact was that I stopped reading the book twice in the middle and read several other books before returning to finish this one.)

A couple minor issues continue from previous books:

1. McCray seems to name every single bit player in her novel (and there are a lot). While I appreciate her world building efforts, I find it a bit distracting.

2. What's with the cat? In the first two books I kept waiting for the cat to play some role in the plot, but no, she's just extraneous fluff.

The big issue for me is that Nyx needs to grow up. Given her background (trained as a Drow warrior), shouldn't she be a better team player? A better team leader?

The whole paranormal racism issue is a bit interesting. The Trackers are essentially law enforcement so their encounters with different paranormal races are sometimes limited to the troublemakers. While it's good that Nyx seems to realize this with regard to the Sprites, it would be nice to see her question her ideas about some of the other races, too. ( )

Nyx is back for the thrid installment of the Night Tracker series, and this time she's after the vampires. The vampires are tired of being left out of the paranorm council and being treated like second rate paranorms, and take matters into their own hands. Like the previous two books, this book is filled with all sorts of paranormal creatures, it's action-packed, and it's got some funny moments in it. I'm really excited to see what's going to happen in the next book, Zombies Sold Separately! ( )

Nyx is back for a 3rd time in Vampires Not Invited. The Vampires of her world have decided they are sick and tired of being the underdogs so they decide to steal a list of all the paranorm's weaknesses with the help of the sprites. Nyx puts herself in a pretty bad spot and her friends and fellow trackers help her get out of it without hesitation. The book is FULL of action at every turn. I laughed a ton which is always nice while reading, I also cried a bit because I'm a sappy emotional reader. Nyx gets over some prejudiced that she has for other races as she makes new friends and allies and sees what she perceived as race/species wide behavior really was only what a select few were like in reality. On a scale of 1-10 the romance between Nyx and Adam is about a 2 but they are still going strong in their relationship. The ending kind of leaves you feeling like the storyline for this book will continue into the next. I look forward to what Nyx does next and how she takes what she learned in Vampires Not Invited to grow as a person and tracker. ( )
