You are going to love this story and find a place in your mind for Theodore Boone written by Grisham who for longer than I can remember has written so many wonderful stories.

Thank you, John Grisham for giving us a younger youth novel "kid lawyer." I would have loved it when I was a kid haunting the stacks of the Dallas Center Community Library! As a grown-up attorney, I still loved reading it. However, I think we also need a Theordora Boone, Kid Lawyer! ( )

Theodore Boone:Kid Lawyer is supposed to be young adult fiction but I liked it. A 13 year old who hangs out in the court house and his parents law office Ted gives legal advice for free and is generally all around helpful. He is also a bit on the tricky side having hacked the court computer system so he could check the court transcripts as they are being written. Theodore with the help of judges, teachers his lawyer parents and his uncle, a disbarred lawyer finds solutions to various legal and other problems. I find myself comparing him to another fictional child who solves mysteries. Flavia DeLuce in Alan Bradley's series of child mysteries. Theodore is actually much better behaved than Flavia but I still liked Kid Lawyer enough to want to read the other books in this series by John Grisham. ( )

John Grisham's new young adult series is delightful, but it has an unexpected bonus. Teddy explains legal terms to his teen clients and this allows us to learn along with them. The book has tight, clever writing and a good plot. I am hooked and can't wait to read the next one. ( )

This is a great book for tweens/middle readers who have an interest in mysteries or law. Grisham does a solid job of explaining real-life legal principles and proceedings in a way that is very understandable for the target audience. In many ways, it reminds you of an Encyclopedia Brown mysteries, mixed with John Grisham’s ability to write about legal proceedings and concepts in an interesting way.

The protagonist in this story—Theodore Boone—is a kid with uncommon legal knowledge as a result of growing up as the son of two lawyers and spending time around lawyers and courtrooms. This allows him to help some of his friends (and their families) with real legal problems. But when Theo gets information that could directly affect the outcome of a murder trial, he winds up having to work with his friends and the adults in his life to bring things to a resolution. Definitely an interesting story and a great way to give kids an introduction to the law and legal proceedings. ( )

Grisham tells his story scrupulously, explaining fine points of criminal law and, as far as I can tell (not being a lawyer myself), sticking to legal reality. As a civics lesson it goes down smoothly, as storytelling only partly so. There’s a reason that movies and TV shows about attorneys are full of courtroom baloney — it’s entertaining!
