This book was really trippy and weird but I loved it. I was hung up on the Rhubarb pie and frijoles being the grand prize I thought that was really funny. I would have loved this book if I read it as a kid, it would probably be engrained in my head. ( )

Recommended by a friend as her/her child's favorite Christmas story. It is wonderful. For me, knowing a little less about the New Mexican specific cultural things, it took a *little* explaining to *really* get it - but it is wonderful even without the explanations. (though if you want to do a little research on some of the characters, I think it's worth your while!) ( )
