Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. Historical Fiction. HTML:Quitting her husband's house and moving back in with her horrible family, Lady Maccon becomes the scandal of the London season in the third book of the NYT bestselling Parasol Protectorate series.
Queen Victoria dismisses her from the Shadow Council, and the only person who can explain anything, Lord Akeldama, unexpectedly leaves town. To top it all off, Alexia is attacked by homicidal mechanical ladybugs, indicating, as only ladybugs can, the fact that all of London's vampires are now very much interested in seeing Alexia quite thoroughly dead.
While Lord Maccon elects to get progressively more inebriated and Professor Lyall desperately tries to hold the Woolsey werewolf pack together, Alexia flees England for Italy in search of the mysterious Templars. Only they know enough about the preternatural to explain her increasingly inconvenient condition, but they may be worse than the vampires â?? and they're armed with pesto.

Um crocodilo na duna de Elizabeth Peters (lquilter)
lquilter: Without knowing, I'd imagine that Gail Carriger had read Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series (beginning with Crocodile on the Sandbank) before writing Blameless (et seq). Similar era, similarly cranky and forthright spinster protagonist, similar sort of love affair, similar witty dialog and observations. The Amelia Peabody books are, of course, "straight" historical mystery, without the steampunk elements of Carriger's series, but I imagine that Carriger fans who read out-of-genre also will enjoy the Peters' series. Similarly, Peters fans who like SF, steampunk, or vampires/werewolves, might enjoy the Carriger series.… (mais)

I find myself once again committing to finishing a series because I've started it, though I will say I enjoy this one more than the SJM ones. Blameless fleshes out the world of the Parasol Protectorate by having our intrepid heroine and her allies travel to The Continent due to circumstances, where we learn more about preternaturals and why the vampires suddenly want Alexia dead. Back at home, werewolf pack dynamics with Professor Lyall~

I do find this series fun. I don't know if I'd be a release day reader if it were still going on, but it's a nice, escapist fantasy. I probably would've been very into it when reading at the time of release?

My library's copy had not just a preview for the next book, but also a snippet of [b:The Shambling Guide to New York City|15790895|The Shambling Guide to New York City (The Shambling Guides, #1)|Mur Lafferty|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1369240552l/15790895._SY75_.jpg|21512450] and... I dunno if I'm interested enough to pursue it. I can see why the publisher thought people who liked X might want to try Y, but ehhhhh. ( )

Oh these ARE fun. Ladybugs, ornithopters, and everything else!
But I am becoming very curious about the elusive Captain Featherstonehaugh who keeps getting engaged to various ladies of London. ( )

Gelesen im Herbst 2023

Schade!

- die Heldin hat starke "not like the other girls" Tendenzen

I loved this storyline. Some people said that they thought Conall got off easy and that Alexia was weak in taking him back. I disagree. Conall did say publicly and in writing that he was wrong, that he was sorry and that his wife is not to blame. That is HUGE in their society and a massive thing for him personally. It would be the same thing when my husband admits he is wrong and then goes to the store with me to buy me a book I want. And believe me she will have used her subtle ways to let him know in the months after that he really was in the wrong. I know myself...eh..her far too good for that. ( )

This book really wouldn't have happened without Kristin, Devi, and Francesca. No, really, you'd be reading a big fat collection of blank pages right now. Thanks, ladies, I owe you all wine and cheese! Lots of cheese. And a million hugs to J. Daniel Sawyer, who was more helpful, more often, than he realized.
