I did not find Fielding's political campaign at all convincing. In today's politics he would not have survived- his opponents would have a hey day with his liaison with Sarah, his brother's addiction, etc. The political context and the obsessive love theme did not really fit well together. ( )

I saw the movie by chance and liked the movie so much that I bought the book. As is typical, I liked the book better even though the movie did an excellent job of conveying the emotions and turmoil experienced by both Sarah and Fielding. The story is about love and the heartbreak that never heals when love is lost. It's about choosing something greater than love and makes you question if there really is something greater.
