Our family of five boys (and some Irish heritage) watched this film repeatedly, and loved it then and now. "The screenplay by Frank S. Nugent was based on a 1933 Saturday Evening Post short story of the same name by Maurice Walsh, later published as part of a collection titled The Green Rushes." - "The film employed many actors from the Irish theatre, including Barry Fitzgerald's brother, Arthur Shields, as well as extras from the Irish countryside, and it is one of the few Hollywood movies in which the Irish language can be heard. Filming commenced on June 7, 1951.[citation needed] All of the outdoor scenes were shot on location in Ireland in County Mayo and County Galway. ... Ford made considerable efforts to get the costumes correct for the period with Ó’Maille – The Original House of Style in Galway tasked with sourcing the costumes." Wikipedia There were some fun interesting items here that didn't make it into the main Wiki entry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3AThe_Quiet_Man Sean Thornton ( John Wayne) is an American prize fighter who swears off boxing after accidently killing an opponent. Returning to the Irish town of his youth, he finds happiness when he falls in love with the fiery Mary Kate ( Maureen O'Hara) . Though he is sorely tempted to take up his gloves against the town bully--her brother -Sean is determined not to use his fists. 153 Min not rated Despite the undeniable schmaltz factor, this film is deservedly regarded as a romantic-comedy classic. Wayne and O'Hara both shine in their respective roles as the Irish-American boxer returning home to Ireland to forget his past, and the wild Irish lass too wilful for any man to marry. Watch it and decide for yourself whether the controversial Drag-A-Wife scene is (a) outright spouse abuse, or (b) a clever plot engineered in advance by the married couple. But note: the transfer is rather poor in places, and apparently the newer "classic" edition of this DVD is no improvement. One star off, then, for an otherwise impeccable DVD. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
