It is about a boy who achieves world peace just by being kind to everyone and everything in his life. I️ remember reading this book to my class last year and them loving it. We then spent the day to try and achieve world peace in our classroom.

Summary: A young boy has a dream of achieving world peace by the time he turns 8 years old. In order to do this he forgives, listens, and gives out lots of cupcakes.

Age: Secondary and Primary

Critique of Genre: This genre of this book is contemporary realistic fiction. The book very well could happen however has not because it is unlikely to hand out that many cupcakes to people.

Paulie Pastrami just wants to make the world a better place, so he sets off to achieve world peace. He travels "the world" and find that kindness, and cupcakes, can go a long way to making people happy. This is a very creative book that teaches children that no matter how young they are they can make a difference. I would read this book aloud to a class of kindergarteners all the way up to second grade. ( )

Hmm. Part of me, the cynical part, wants to give this one star. That's because by world" peace the author means Tire World, Mattress World, etc. But the happy part of me strongly believes that kindness and cupcakes do make a big difference, and loves the crazy illustrations, and wants to give the book 5 stars. Highly recommended to everyone who can disregard that nagging pessimistic voice inside." ( )

I would recommend this book for students kindergarten through third grade because the main character, Paulie, is seven. This book is also written in very clear, short sentences which makes it easy for younger children to understand.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for students to read. I think it is a great choice for students because though it is written with a light, funny tone. For example, the author uses speech bubbles by Paulie and the other characters to make the story humorous. On the author wrote, "He beat a tiger in a race," but in a speech bubble Paulie confides, "Actually it was a kitty named Tiger," which made me laugh. I also enjoyed this book because it contained a wholesome message. Throughout the story, Paulie learns about what the power of kindness can do when he realizes his acts of kindness "had an impact on the entire classroom," and then strives to bring happiness and peace to the world. Though he does it a humorous manner by doing acts of kindness at different "world" stores, Paulie is still reaching out and doing good in his community. This is a great message for students because students around the same age as Paulie can learn about the impact they can make in their community through acts of kindness. ( )
