A cent'anni dalla nascita, questo (del 2009) libro giunge in Italia a celebrare uno dei più citati e meno letti autori del 900. Il problema è: cosa aggiunge questo libro alla conoscenza di McLuhan se non qualche nota biografica (del resto rinvenuta altrove) di medio interesse? Da Coupland ci si aspetterebbe più di questo e quel che manca in questo libro (al di là degli sporadici vezzi del giocare con le parole dell'autore) è una lettura nuova di McLuhan, degna dell'autore di Generazione X e A. Sporadicamente questo riesce ed è dove Coupland mette più del suo. Il resto scorre senza particolari entusiasmi. ( )

From the title, I expected that this book was mostly going to give us Coupland's take on the significance of McLuhan's work. There is a little of that, but only a little, and in a footnote on page 147 Coupland makes clear this is a "general biography with limited space" (it turns out the title is quoting the words scripted for McLuhan's cameo in Annie Hall by Woody Allen). It's interesting both in terms of the short insights Coupland does have space to include, and, if you're a Coupland fan like me, it's clear that some of the qualities that he praises in McLuhan are ones that he has sought to emulate in his own novels. Not bad, could have been better. ( )

Interesting subject matter but too cold a medium for the message of a life. ( )

Coupland hat eine Biographie geschrieben, der man anmerkt, dass es selbst Schriftsteller ist, mit autobiographischen Zügen und dem, was ihn selbst an der zeit McLuhans interessiert.
Mit hat das Buch einen ersten Einblick zu McLuhan gegeben, der zum Weiterlesen animiert, obwohl ich den Mann selbst - glaube ich - nicht besonders geschätzt hätte. Aus der Ferne sind er und seine Ideen jedenfalls sehr interessant.
Nebenbei: Das Buch liest sich angenehm, unterhaltsam und schnell. :-) ( )

I 've got over 90% of all the other McLuhan books! This one is good and quirky! ( )
