I really liked this book because the holiday of Easter was explained through the death and rising of Jesus Christ. The development of the story was necessary and appropriate so young ones could understand exactly why Easter is a Holiday in the Christian society. This book illustrates the activities that are done during Easter like, egg coloring and egg hunts. Most importantly this is the day where families attend church service to pray to Jesus Christ and the Holy Father. This book is written for children and the language was appropriate for the age. The vocabulary wasn't too difficult and the glossary located in the back of the page helped a lot. The overall meaning of this book is to explain how Easter became an important holiday in the American culture. This would be a good book to use in Sunday School Services at Christian or Catholic churches. I found it very informative. The overall idea of this book is to explain how Easter came to be and what Christians do on this day. ( )

SUMMARY: This book goes through a simplified version of what the bible describes as to what happened to create the holiday, Easter. It describes Jesus and all that he had gone through. It also describes symbols that are significant to Easter and why certain traditions are done.

Review: I did not care for the biblical explanation of Easter, but I did think that this book had great detail and explanation of the symbols and traditions of Easter. For example, "There are Easter lilies and other spring flowers. They are symbols of new life and hope." Also, "The egg is a symbol of new life. For thousands of years it was the custom to give eggs as gifts at spring festivals." It also explained the bunny and its significance. "This legend began many years ago. There was a story about a woman who dyed eggs for children at Easter and she hid them in a nest. When the children found the nest, a big rabbit hopped away. They thought that the rabbit brought the eggs, and the story spread." This book also had great illustrations.

I liked this book for a few reasons. For one, I liked the illustrations because they were drawn pictures instead of photographs. This is an important feature for younger students who are beginning to transition into reading informational books. While the story is factual, students can still enjoy the fictional illustrations. Also, I liked the organization of the story because it started with the history of the holiday and then went on to describe common day traditions. For example, the story opens with, “many years ago, baby Jesus was born.” Although I did not like this story because it may be too religious for some students. The big message of Easter is to inform students about the history of Easter and traditions. ( )

This a very simple nonfiction book about the origins of Easter. It might be too religious to share in a public school read-aloud, but it does fill in the basic history of the holiday among Christians and even mentions the origins of more secular holiday traditions like Easter Eggs and the name of the holiday coming from Eostre, the pagan goddess of Spring. I like this book for its simplicity. It's targeted at younger audiences. ( )

The history of Easter and the Easter story in both the religious context of Jesus Christ and the worldy tradition of the Easter Bunny. The book provides different symbols of Easter and gives a good description and history of each. Loved this book! It is simple and factual with Easter traditions celebrated by people all over the world. ( )
