Excellent romantic adventure story that takes place on a fictional Greek Island (

I picked up a copy of this book after I had read a few of Hope's other works (Zenda, Dieppe, Simon Dale...) and I am so glad I did. This is a great story. I won't mention any of the details as I think it is best left as a surprise, but I will say it is a page-turner, really well written, and a great set of characters!

The first time I read this I would have given it 5; the second time I did not like it quite som much,. but it is still better than most of Hope's non-Ruritanian novels, concerning an English hero involved with a young Greek girl and assorted villains on an Aegean island. The plot bears a curious resemblence to Buchan's The Dancing Floor. (
