"Boy" is a very short book, almost a novella, with a dreamy, abstract feel. Lucy meets an autistic boy in her building, and immediately wants to become a part of his life. His saintly mother and caregiver encourage her in this. Lucy's selfless interest in Matthew is commendable, and she speaks of a desire to work with the autistic, but this happy little book is a very rose-tinted view of a challenging condition.

Evocative story of a tween girl trying to uncover the mysteries of her 7 year old autistic neighbor. Descriptive language and powerful 1st person voice make this a wonderful read about special needs children.
