This book discusses how they built boats in ancient Egypt. For example, they show the different parts of the boat like the stem post that sticks out from the boat.

Summary: this book is about the process of building the boat for the Pharaoh Cheops for when he was dead by his son. The book then goes into detail of the process the builders took in the boat making and the discovery of it and the remains of the Pharaoh Cheops along with it.
Review: This book was, unfortunately, boring in its description of the boat to me, and it sadly was not interesting even though it showed the various tools the workers of ancient Egypt had at that time, and how long projects like that took in those days. Part of the problem is that the book reads from like a textbook than a trade book, and thus would probably not be interesting unless one had a specific interest in ancient Egypt. ( )

This book is a great example of what building was like during 2581 B.C.E. Th Egyptians built a boat from uneven surfaces and chopped away until they got the perfect shape. This took a really long time to do. If you would to compare building a boat today to the boat built during that time frame we would be shocked. Although, this was set a long time ago we still use some of the building techniques today. The Egyptians hand carved every beautiful detail. Great work was put into this boat. This book shows the historical background by telling the readers about the tools used and and what they looked like. It is important for us as the readers to get a sense if time and background books were set in. ( )

Pharaoh's Boat is an excellent example of how a teacher can show students how the past connects to the present, how techniques used 4500 years ago are still being used today. David L. Weitzman, although just an amateur expert on Ancient Egypt, did extensive research in order to write the story of how Pharaoh Cheops's burial ship was built. He used the findings of Egyptologist Hag Ahmed Youssef Moustafa to describe how the Ancient Egyptians built their burial ships. Moustafa found the remains of Cheops's ship and then painstakingly pieced the boat's rotten pieces back together. Through this process he discovered that shipbuilders in Egypt now use similar techniques when it comes to building the hull; techniques used in ancient times survive through to today. Although this is just one small aspect of Ancient Egyptian life, this book could segue students into understanding how the Nile River shaped life in ancient times. I also appreciate that the illustrations throughout the book are reminiscent of Egyptian hieroglyphics. By staying true to the historical background throughout the illustrations with images of tools and and the like, Weitzman is able to show children several sides of Ancient Egyptian life. ( )
