Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette. Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate. With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?… (mais)

Crocodile on the Sandbank de Elizabeth Peters (nessreader, lquilter)
nessreader: The heroine of Soulless has a similar outlook to early Amelia Peabody (but I should warn that the Peabody series is cosy crime/romance, with no supernatural element while Soulless is gleeful fantasy) Both have strong willed on-the-shelf spinsters who are active protagonists in their story.… (mais)
lquilter: Without knowing, I'd imagine that Gail Carriger had read Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series (beginning with Crocodile on the Sandbank) before writing Blameless (et seq). Similar era, similarly cranky and forthright spinster protagonist, similar sort of love affair, similar witty dialog and observations. The Amelia Peabody books are, of course, "straight" historical mystery, without the steampunk elements of Carriger's series, but I imagine that Carriger fans who read out-of-genre also will enjoy the Peters' series. Similarly, Peters fans who like SF, steampunk, or vampires/werewolves, might enjoy the Carriger series.… (mais)

I really didn't like this one. It seemed like a easy, fun read but the characters annoyed me. Everyone! How is that possible?!

I won't continu with the series. Damn and I really wanted to like this one.
The bastard didn't even told her that he loved her at the end. Just like in star wars I really get annoyed with those kind of characters... ( )

“Who bit you?" he roared.
Alexia tilted her head to one side in amazement. "You did." She was then treated to the spectacle of an Alpha werewolf looking downright hangdog.
"I did?"
She raised both eyebrows at him.
"I did.”

As always my reviews are based off of my true and honest opinion and I do my best to keep all reviews spoiler free.
Alexia Tarabotti is a wonder book about a woman who has no soul. Which is very different from the vampires and werewolves who have too much soul. Her touching one of them turns them turns them human again, but only as long as she is touching them. Being soulless makes it hard to know how to act. Thats why she follows the rules of etiquette.

Lord Maccon is the extremely handsome leader of the werewolves. After Alexia accidently kills a vampire he and his employees work to uncover the strangeness surrounding it, and work to protect Alexia whos life is now in danger from an unknown threat.
I loved this book. The first couple of chapters were touch and go there as I wasn't sure about the soulless issue and super properness, but ultimately it made the story great. She loves to eat haha. Also I wasn't expecting a romance novel. I thought it was a fantasy novel with some romance. I found it was much more a romance novel first with paranormal aspects thrown in, but with lest angst than romance novels typically have.

I also that it was very funny. I found my self grinning like an idiot, as well as blushing, and even on a few occasion laughing out loud. She is so blunt and has no problem speaking her mind. I will definitely be continuing this series. ( )

Very good, with just enough of a cliff-hanger to make you want to know what happens next. ( )

Adult fiction; fantasy/humor/romance. A clever blend of genres; the romance portions may perhaps be a bit too much for sensitive people. ( )

Soulless
(Parasol Protectorate #1)
by Gail Carriger

I really enjoyed this book! I think everyone else has read it by now but me! I didn't realize it had vampires and werewolves in it or I would have read it sooner! I thought it was just a romance.
It's funny, has a good mystery, great characters, a fantasy, a romance, great world building, and very entertaining! I liked that she was strong willed, not perfect, but still just right!
Great story! ( )

Carriger debuts brilliantly with a blend of Victorian romance, screwball comedy of manners and alternate history.
