One child. One swing. An obliging dad. The inevitable plea to go "Higher! Higher!" Add Leslie Patricelli's wildly expressive illustrations, and an everyday pastime reaches new heights of humor and whimsy. How high can it go? Higher than a giraffe? Taller than a mountain? Is Earth the final frontier? The creator of a popular series of board books rises to the occasion with an ingenious picture book of very few words that expresses the giddy glee of being pushed in a swing.… (mais)

Swings are my favorite! Plus I love the colors and the surprise guest in the middle. Yay!

Melissa is a most excellent book buddy. ( )

Higher! Higher! was written and illustrated by Leslie Patricelli. It's about a little girl on a swing and what she sees in her imagination as she goes higher and higher. Hand-lettered with simple, child-like drawings.in bright acrylics; some pages have no words, others only one or two. Nevertheless, there's a lot going on in the pictures for a child to talk about. It was a 2009 Boston Globe - Horn Book Picture Book Honor Book. Patricelli mostly does board books featuring a bald baby, and says she got the idea for this book from pushing her own two-year-old daughter on a swing.

This book is similar to "Faster, Faster!" This is about a little girl on the swing set with her dad pushing her back and forth. She tells him to go “higher, higher” each time. The higher she goes, the more she sees. She sees a giraffe, top of a building, airplanes, she even makes it to space and says hi to an alien up there. At the end of it when she was all done she told her dad “again!” Because if how much fun it was. The illustrations in this book told most of the whole story because the main words that were used throughout the book were “higher, higher.” It can build up a child's imagination when he goes on a swing. Summary: this picture book is about a girl on a swing who keeps asking to be pushed higher. The illustrations show her getting higher up in the air and comparing her size to the different things around her the higher she gets.

Classroom use: this is definitely a book we could use to teach students about perspective. The illustrations are also bright and colorful. ( )

a little girl is on a swing and when she gets to the top, it compares her to other things that are high up. (a rocket, a mountain top)
