"Social darling Delaine Dish is throwing a lavish Candlelight Concert to raise funds for a run-down Victorian home donated to the Heritage Society - and Theodosia Browning is more than happy to help out with tea and tasty treats from the Indigo Tea Shop. The partygoers are a "who's who" of Charleston politics, industry, and high society, and Delaine plans to hit them all up for money to restore the Augustus Chait House to its former glory." "Unfortunately, the grand unveiling of Theo's opulent spread proves to be far from grand after retired CEO and beloved politico Duke Wilkes stumbles forward...and falls face-first onto the floor with a jagged piece of metal protruding from his neck. The police are on the case immediately, and Theo has her hands too full with business to get involved. But when the Widow Wilkes begs her to apply her sleuthing skills, she can hardly refuse. Everyone who attended the party is a potential suspect - and a discreet Theodosia may be able to get the inside dirt that the police cannot." "But her investigation opens up a simmering pot of shady politics and personal payback, and Theo soon finds herself in a situation stickier than any jam she's ever served."--BOOK JACKET.… (mais)

I continue to enjoy these cosy mysteries because of the smartness and sassyness of Theodosia and her colleagues Drayton and Hayley. ( )

Synopsis: One of the most loved characters has been murdered in a house that has been donated to the Historic Society. A female CEO of a new television station has also been murdered. And Earl Grey has been dognapped. Are all three of these crimes connected? Theo et al believe so.
Review: The premise that lovely people commit crimes is explored as is the topic of illegally importing exotic animals. There are lots of loose ends left in this one. ( )

Another fast fun Tea Shop mystery by Laura Childs. ( )

This was OK. Good enough to finish. But even though I like tea (a theme that runs through this series), I found the book slow and the setting of the genteel South in Charleston not that interesting and rather one note. I won't be reading any more books by this author. She did have a genuine mystery and the perpetrator did not explain everything that happened when he was caught, which is a pet peeve of mind in mysteries. ( )

I have read most of the Tea Shop mysteries to date now. The recipes are always luscious, and tea shop descriptions detailed and interesting. The characters seem like people I know. I love Drayton! My kind of man! The only criticism I have with these books is that the endings always seem to stretch my credulity. This one is no exception. Spoiler alert!! Think "releasing wild exotic animals into their non-native habitats." Really?? Isn't that against the law? What would the animal rights folks have to say about that idea? Just sayin'. ( )

"Fascinating," declared Theodosia Browning as her quizzical blue eyes roved about the hexagon-shaped room.
