Clever, funny, really likable characters and an interesting mystery make this a highly enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Really delighted to discover a new author to read too! ( )

My two friends that supply me with tons of these books just handed me this and said, "We haven't read it yet. Thought you could be our guinea pig". Not sure if that was intended to express my great evaluation of literature or if they were expressing something that I might not want to examine too closely. Nonetheless...read it I did...and I liked it. I felt rather sorry for poor Tom. He was not expecting Stanly or the effect that Stanly had on him. He thought it was a bad case of indigestion but Pepcid was not helping any and every time Stanly looked at him he had to take some more. Them working that out was almost as good as the rest of the story. In Deadly Nightshade, we are introduced to the transgender world of San Francisco and certain parts are an eye opener for me....since I didn't know much about the transgender population. The story is layered with suspense and I never guessed the murderer. As for the ending, it is one exciting climax. I'm going to tell my two friends they can purchase book #2 anytime now. ( )

We meet Tom and Stanley, both cops. Tom is straight, Stanley gay. Although Tom objects (of course!) they get partnered up for a homicide case. Together they need to find a serial killer; a drag queen.

Although I enjoyed the book, and will definitely read the next one of the series I did have some issues. Tom, the "I'm definitely straight, because I'm telling you I am", cop seems inconsistent, and not in a 'usual' conflicted way. It gave me a bit of an okay? moment and made me stop for a bit. And whilst I loved Stanley ("don't ever call me Stan"), a real flaming gay, I really can't understand how he EVER made it through the preliminaries to join the police force, let alone the training etc!

The story was ok. I just couldn’t get into. I’m thinking it was the narration. I just wasn’t feeling it at all. The words in my head did not mesh with the delivery. That kept pulling me back out of the story. ( )

This was a 5-star book right up until the ending!

I enjoyed spending quality time with Stanley (flaming gay) and Tom (straight manly-man cop). There were laugh out loud moments and a good mystery to keep me turning those pages. And all the way I hoped for these two great guys to find a way to be together.

It seems they were successful at solving a murder mystery but not so good at figuring out the relationship stuff. But then, this is a series, and the first one doesn't have to end with a happily ever after, now does it? Just the same, leaving me unfulfilled at the end gets a 4 star rating rather than 5 stars. Can't wait to see them try again in the next book! And that's probably what author Victor J. Banis had in mind all along. ;-D ( )
