Fascinating historical fiction…..
This is the first of six books in the “Edge of the New World” series by Lynn Sholes (Lynn Armistead McKee).

I was hooked right from the start with this book…. the author’s writing style was a perfect blend of detailed research and a well-developed fictional story. The characters were portrayed so realistically and the culture and traditions of the two tribes were described so well that I was instantly drawn into the lives of these people. Though some people may complain that the details slowed the pace and action of the story….. I disagree. I loved the details about their customs, traditions and legends that was reflected in everything from important rituals to mundane everyday tasks. It made the characters more real to me. I was so lost in the details that I could visualize the story in my mind as I read. By the time I reached the end… I felt as though I had just watched a movie instead of reading a book!

I will definitely continue reading this series. 4-1/2 Stars.

This is an interesting book. One which has been given a great deal of thought, which is well researched as well as well written. It is particularly fascinating to consider the wealth of knowledge that our ancestors had in relation to the medicinal plants that grew in their locales. Most of us now couldn't light a fire never mind do without electricity. However the underlying message of this book is as relevant today as it was in the Times so vividly described by this talented author.
