You wouldn't think by looking at the title of this book that it is about being independent. However that is what I took from it. Princess Smartypants wanted to do her own thing. She didn't want to take a husband because that's what was expected out of her. So she put everyone who came asking for her hand to an unattainable task. However there was one who met every challenge... what was wrong with him? Princess Smartypants proves once again that her independence is important to her.

I enjoyed the colorful illustrations. They really helped make the book better. There was so much detail in each picture. You could really sense the emotion of the characters coming through the pages.

Princess Smartypants is definitely a good book for those independent princesses. ( )

This is a story about a princess who doesn't want to get married but her parents want her to, she gives men tasks to win her hand but none of them complete it except for one who can do it all. When she gives him a kiss she turns into a frog. This is a good example to show the students for fantasy and to get them to explore their creativity. Good for ages 1st-3rd ( )

Ok - For a second, I wasn't sure WTH happened with Prince Swashbuckle...but it works out. ( )

Princess Smartypants doesn't want to get married; she wants to take care of her pets (alligator-looking dragon, gigantic snail, etc.) and do what she pleases. So, she invents impossible tasks for her suitors, and when they fail, she sends them away. But then Prince Swashbuckle appears and accomplishes every task. So Princess Smartypants kisses him...and turns him into a frog. She lives happily ever after, with her pets, doing just what she pleases.

A humorous antidote to the prince-and-princess HEA.

Genre: fantasy because non of this is real but it has real people in it.
Summary- this book is about a princess that doesn't want to get married but her parents want her to. so she says well a man has to win my hand in marriage and has these men do something task and if they didnt accomplish them then they lost and could not marry her. She went through this with several princes. Finally there was a prince that did all of it and thought he was going to get to marry her but then she kissed his cheek and he turned into a frog and he ran away and she stayed happily unmarried forever.
Reflection- The book was very entertaining. Im not quite sure if the message is good for children but it is fantasy and I think its very fun. teachers could use it for elementary schools students. ( )

This a great resource to go along with a lesson on fairy tales. Hold a discussion on how this is unlike a typical fairy tale.
