Highsmith created a marvelously dark character in grifter Tom Ripley, and great tension in scenes of murder, thinking about murder, and trying to avoid being discovered. As in some of her other work there is psychological obsession and a homoerotic friendship, and her observations about people are pointed. I loved the wonderful details about places in Italy, and the subversive ending. A highly enjoyable book all around. ( ![]() I must admit I came away slightly disappointed with this book. I was hoping for more... One ticked off my must read list but I found the story a little dull and unbelievable towards the end of it. A Matt Damon doubleheader after The Martian! (No, I didn't plan this.) This was fun to read, but the pacing is a little weird - it often seems like the plot only advances when Ripley decides it does, which feels like it just sucks the momentum out of everything. This was well done! Quite a thriller but I don't like Tom Ripley. There is nothing redeeming about his character, he doesn't feel remorse at all and he is incredibly lucky. But I guess he will forever see shadows wherever he is, and can never be completely free. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

In a chilling literary hall of mirrors, Patricia Highsmith introduces Tom Ripley. Like a hero in a latter-day Henry James novel, is sent to Italy with a commission to coax a prodigal young American back to his wealthy father. But Ripley finds himself very fond of Dickie Greenleaf. He wants to be like him--exactly like him. Suave, agreeable, and utterly amoral, Ripley stops at nothing--certainly not only one murder--to accomplish his goal. Turning the mystery form inside out, Highsmith shows the terrifying abilities afforded to a man unhindered by the concept of evil. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
