The early church in Corinth was falling apart. Sin was rampant, divisions were growing, and the congregation was living no differently than the world around them. What had corrupted this once vibrant church? The apostle Paul immediately understood the symptoms: The people had traded God's perfect wisdom for faulty human knowledge. Be Wise guides us through Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, where he encourages his fellow believers to embrace a life of wisdom and truth. Part of Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe's best-selling "BE" commentary series, Be Wise has now been updated with study questions and a new introduction by Ken Baugh. A respected pastor and Bible teacher, Dr. Wiersbe shares a wealth of insights on living wisely. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

I also appreciated the author's emphasis on love, grace, building other people up, and creating bridges instead of walls. Of course that's what a commentary on Corinthians should say, but people often brush over these facts at best and relish the idea of sinners getting their just deserts at worst - forgetting of course that they are also sinners who deserve Hell.
He did end up looking a bit hypocritical in the end, but I think that was mostly due to lack of explanation. For example, what is the difference between the philosophizing of the Corinthians and the doctrine that Wiersbe apparently loves, both have been used to create divisions in the church. I also am becoming annoyed with people who seem to think they are presenting the true and pure gospel and everyone else has on tinted glasses, because everyone says that about everyone else. I guess humble people don't get their books published.
Well we all have our shortcomings and generally I would say this book was not heretical :) I'm sure Wiersbe will be relieved when he hears he has my approval. ( )
