2884 The Last Romantic: A Biography of Queen Marie of Roumania, by Hannah Pakula (read 5 Jul 1996) This is a 1984 book of Queen Marie (born 29 Oct 1875, the daughter of Queen Victoria's second son and of Czar Alexander II's daughter. She married the Crown Prince (later King) of Roumania and died 18 July 1938. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and learned a lot. Marie was flamboyant and impulsive, and usually was right. She was doggedly pro-Allies in World War One. The book is mostly drawn from secondary sources, but it is well put-together and I am glad I read it. ( )
