Victory at Sea brings together in one encyclopedic volume all the facts, figures, and details of a theater of war that covered a third of the earth's surface. Containing much information that is unfamiliar or new, it can be read straight through or used as an authoritative reference.
Acclaimed military historians James Dunnigan and Albert Nofi examine the massive campaigns launched by all the combatants, as well as the famous battles for places like Midway, Guadalcanal, and Okinawa. They also take a close look at some of the lesser-known confrontations that were sometimes more strategically important. Dunnigan and Nofi discuss the innovative and unique aspects of a modern war at sea.
Victory at Sea also describes in detail the ships and aircraft used by all the combatants, as well as the strategy and politics behind their deployment. A chapter titled "Logistics and Production" examines the oft-overlooked yet crucial question of which side was better able to turn out the armaments and supplies that fueled the military machines.
Dunnigan and Nofi include a biographical index of all the major participants - from Field Marshal Sir Harold Alexander to Lieutenant General Tomoyuki Yamashita - and a "Chronolog," which offers a day-by-day account of all the significant events that shaped the Pacific campaigns.
