An elderly ex-teacher pays a surprise visit on one of his ex-pupils, only to discover that the student, now a top government official, denies ever having met him. Summoned by the secret police to explain how he knew of the bureaucrat's existence, the old man serves up a series of long, meandering tales, each more extraordinary than the last, and more reminiscent of Latin-American magical realism than the stark reality of Eastern Europe under communism. Hardly an in-depth appraisal of life in communist Romania, but a fascinating (and entertaining) read nevertheless. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
