Oliver realizes that his mother is getting his old baby things together for the new baby. He does take that too well. He wants to run away until he realizes that being a big brother won't be so bad after all. This story shows the troubles a child goes through when learning a new baby will be coming into the family. This is a fictional story about a young boy named Oliver who is not looking forward to being a big brother. Oliver is not content with the new baby taking his old things, such as his crib, his high chair, his rocking horse, his swing, and especially taking up room for him to be able to sit on his Mommy's lap. Oliver decides he wants to move out. When his Mom sees how upset he is, she shares how she would be miserable without him, and expresses how special Oliver is to her, and the exciting things that come along with being a big brother. This is a book that many children can relate to, who are the oldest in their families. It can allow for children to be excited about being the older sibling. This can be a great discussion and writing lesson for students, no matter if they are the oldest, the middle child, or the youngest in their families. ( )

"I don't like you anymore! I'm going to throw you away in the garbage can! And I won't give you any food." -said by a toddler named Oliver.

Oliver's mom is having a baby but Oliver does not like it one bit! The new baby is getting Oliver's old high chair, crib, and swing. Oliver even mentions to his mom " Look! You don't even have a lap anymore. That baby is taking up all the room, and it isn't even born yet." Also, Oliver tells his mom that he is going to throw away the two of them (the opening quote) or he is moving out. After the mom talks to Oliver about his feelings including telling him big brothers get to do special things, Oliver feels a bit more excited for the new baby's arrival.

At first, Oliver is wanting to throw both his mom and new baby into the trash can and to bring them to the dump. He is upset the new baby is getting all his old stuff and his mom did not even ask what he thought about it. He also likes being the only child and not sharing anything. Oliver then changes his views to excited because he discovers that this new addition will make him a big brother. Big brothers have big responsibilities and get to do special things, so he is excited and has lots of plans. ( )

This is a cute story of the feeling a little boy goes through when he finds out his mom is giving all his old stuff away to the new baby brother. He thinks it is unfair that his mom gave all his things away without even asking her. This book does a great job of capturing the true feeling pf what a little boy might actually say and do if he was in the same situation, or any older sibling for that matter. It talks about the difficulties a child would face when dealing with his mom if she was pregnant. ( )

This book covers the topic of the birth of a new sibling. Oliver is very mad that his mother is painting his high chair and crib without his permission. He feels overwhelmed that he cannot even sit on his mother's lap and the baby has not even been born yet. Oliver is so mad that he tells his mother that he does not like her anymore and wants to put her into the garbage. This is followed by many pages of what Oliver would do to his mother. I think that this portion of the book is slightly dragged out, but the author may be trying to portray the anger and fear of this young boy. I am undecided if I would read this to my students/child, but I think that the interest level would be pre-k through 1st grade. ( )
