M150 Data, Computing and Information is split in to 3 Blocks. This pack contains Block 1 and includes Units 1-5, a CD-ROM and the Essential HTML Guide (Data Card for Block 1). Unit 1: Data and information: an Introduction This unit introduces the themes of the course using case studies to illustrate some of the ways in which computing technology can be used to transform data into information. Unit 2: Representation This unit looks more closely at data and information and, specifically, the need for suitable forms of representation to enable people to communicate with computers, and computers to communicate with each other. Unit 3: Crossing the boundary: analogue universe, digital worlds This unit explores how various kinds of analogue data can be digitally encoded, stored and processed in a digital computer system. Unit 4: Integrating data This unit looks at how information on the web is represented, manipulated and displayed and examines how different representations can be combined in an organised manner. Unit 5: Storing, getting and sending your data This unit examines how data is stored, how it is transmitted across a network, and the issues which arise when storing and transmitting data using computers. Course CD-ROM: The CD-ROM contains activities and exercises associated with Block 1. It also contains links to the websites referenced in the units
