Really excellent book. The format is small and convenient ... for anything like carrying it around, but not so much for reading. The print is quite small. It has the best, most extensive section on constellations I've ever seen, covering all 88 constellations including the ones we denizens of the Northern Hemisphere have never heard of and will probably never see. Each constellation is considered in-depth with a guide to objects of interest within its boundary. This is like a tourist guide to the sky!

This book starts out by explaining the basics of astronomy. It tells how constellations were formed and if the stars are related to each other. There are maps of the night sky and charts showing constellations and stars. The book gives the history behind constellations including the people who discovered them and tons of facts as well. It also explains the science with stars, galaxies, the sun, the planets and even comets and meteors.

I liked this book. I’ve always been fascinated by stars and constellations. The maps made it easy to see the patterns and constellations and the facts it gives throughout the book were very interesting!

1. This would be a great way to help students visualize astronomy.
2. Would be a great book to use in a science unit on space. ( )
