Not exactly "this little piggy goes to the market" kind of book. However, the idea of pigs as your fingers and toes remain true.

Ten little pigs dance, skip, and do other silly things on the child's fingers and toes before the child goes to sleep. The book counts the little piggies one by one on each of the hands. (Children can copy the motions what the hands are doing. This also allows children to imagine little pigs dancing, and twirling on their fingers).
This book uses lots of adjectives to describe the pigs such as "two smart little piggies" showing the piggies reading a book and using a telescope. "Sometimes they're hot little piggies..." This page shows the bright, hot sun behind them. "... and sometimes they're cold little piggies." On this page, you can see lots of snow and the piggies all bundle up in winter wear. The book ends with the child placing their hands on his/her stomach by interlocking the fingers together so the piggies can fall asleep.

Author:
Audrey Wood has made kids' fingers and toes represent little piggies. Starting with the thumb and ending with the pinkie this is what each piggie represents for each finger... fat, smart, long, silly, and wee little. If a child looks at their hands (since they are much smaller/shorter than adults) they can imagine their thumb being a fat little piggie or their pinky being a wee little piggie. Audrey Wood used a lot of adjectives in her book along with the illustrator using lots of detail that goes hand and hand with the words.

My experience:
So I read this to my preschool (2-4 age) and whatever the hands did, they did too. I did not tell them to do this, so it was really interesting on how they automatically did this. (For some reason, it actually shocked me). One page had all fingers up with the pinkie down. My kids could not do this. So after I read the book, we practice the different hand motions. ( )

"Piggies" is a creative bedtime story involving ten piggies playing on the fingers and toes of a child before it's finally time for goodnight kisses. Simply describing this book is a bit difficult because the illustrations play such a HUGE part in reading this story. The colors are so vivid and each piggie is participating in a different activity on each page, so children could easily take a few minutes taking in all of the details. Intended for very young children, this book also is an awesome way to practice counting to ten. They can hold their hands up and count right along with the story.
Audrey and Don Wood are on my mom's list of favorite authors, so growing up they were included in our bedtime routine countless times. So many of their books now hold a special place in my heart and I can't wait to share them with my own children one day. ( )

This book could be used when studying the senses of vision as well as fun and engaging. Children will delight in the antics of ten marvelous little piggies who romp from fingers to toes in this original bedtime fantasy. Don Wood’s oil paintings explode with mirth and magic and will engage all young readers."Trying to describe these luxuriant, witty pictures doesn’t really work, however; seeing is believing, and what luck for us there’s so much to see. Age Range: 4 - 7 years
Grade Level: Preschool - 3

Make sure you have good light and clean glasses before attempting to read this. There's so much detail in which to revel - it's the book read in the part of the bedtime ritual *before* tucking into bed. My favorite piggy is of course the smart one on the right hand, who is reading (or ocassionally writing) in *almost* every scene. ( )
