This book shows the memories of Rosie. She looks back at all the fun times she had on the summer lake. Since it was cold, she was not having a great winter but her memories allowed her to get by when she wrote a letter to the lake. This would show kids to hold on to your memories as long as you can. I enjoyed this book a lot. Rosie doesn't get frustrated with the fact that winter has taken over her summer days. Rosie has a good imagination also. In her mind, she sends a letter to her summer vacation spot, the lake. The illustrations were very vibrant as well. Whenever Rosie spoke of her summers by the lake, the pictures spoke and came to life with colors but when she spoke of her current reality, the illustrations were grey and gloomy. Swanson did a great with this story. ( )

Summary: Rosie begins to write a letter to her lake house in the middle of the cold winter. She tells the lake of all of the troubles she is having, like the fact that her mama is worried because her sweater is buttoned crooked and even that their car won't start and they need the neighbor to help. Rosie is wishing that summer would hurry about and come back and beings to remind the lake of the fun that they have together such as, floating in a silver boat, chasing dragonflies, and even picking raspberries.

Review: What a wonderful book to read about Rosie and her friendship with her childhood lake house. This is a great book for confident young readers because the central message is about holding on to memories. Children can relate to the fun summer adventures that Rosie talks about with her lake and they [children] can also learn from this book that memories can make people happy even when things are not going well, just like Rosie. Rosie was not having a great winter so far because it was super cold out and her boots were too small, she also kept talking about how her mama was worried about the weather and her mama's car did not start a few times. Throughout all of the unpleasant experiences Rosie was having, she continued to feed off her her wonderful summertime memories at her lake. ( )

This book shows how important memories are for children. Children is stuck in dark and dreary winter when she wishes she was back in summer by her favorite lake. Like most children, Rosie has her favorite place and remembers it when she is not allowed to be there. This book also shows how others happiness should come before your own. Rosie had a favorite rock that she got from the lake that she kept in her pocket so she could remember her favorite place. However, she knew her mom needed it more than her and gave it to her mother. Although it was her favorite rock, she wanted her mom to be happy and though the rock would spark summer memories for her mother. ( )

Letter to the Lake is about a little girl who looks back at all the fun times she had on the summer lake. This book allows us to explore our imagination and show us that we can have feelings for unhuman like things. This book can be helpful in a classroom if children are writing letters to not only family, but maybe the things they love to do. Such as riding a bike. ( )
