The repetition of the positive affirmation throughout the poetic chant shows how the embedded life advice is coming from a caring place. The mix of modern Mexican mural art and ancient Aztec hieroglyphics for the books illustrations are a great way to show how the old world and new both benefit from timeless advice. ( ) I loved this book! Ana Castillo puts together some of her favorite ancient Aztec teachings in a book for young boys and girls. The teachings encourage young men and women to have respect, work hard, know your worth, and to be good people. The illustrations are beautifully done with great details, incorporating ancient Aztec glyphs. My Daughter, My Son, the Eagle, the Dove by Ana Castillo is now one of my favorite books. The book is written for a child who is on their way to adulthood and it is told from a parent or wise elder's perspective. By reciting chants from the ancient land of Mexico, the heartfelt message of the book is one that everyone will want to give or recieve. The book gives advice and guides a child through life while tracing the milestones of growing up. My mother gave me a similar book entitled "I Hope You Dance" for my highschool graduation that I absolutely adore. This book reminded me just how important it is to pass on our wisdom to our offspring and give them their rite of passage. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
