Locked their struggle, the war between Videssos and the Makuran Empire becomes more damaging than even. This volume demonstrates that a successful usurpation does not solve all problems, and that those problems have very deep causes for both countries. Competent entertainment. ( ) This is the 2nd of a 4 book Videssos series. Unfortunately, it isn't as good as the rest. I really enjoyed this series when it started out, following the Lost Legion, but after the 6th book or so, the series seemed to get repetitive. As usual, the world is well constructed. The characters are not as well constructed or interesting as they could be, and the plot is mostly a repeat of earlier books. Even though this is told from the viewpoint of an opponent to Videssos, not a Videssian, it didn't change much for me, it felt mostly the same. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
THE RED BOOTS Videssos was beset by enemies. A pretender held the throne--a despot who cared little that barbarian hordes and rival realms carved away at his empire, so long as the wealth and booty of the land satisfied his unbridled appetites. Few stood against him. And those few soon found their heads on pikes. Only one name held hope for freedom: Maniakes. And from his exile on the very edge of the civilized world, young Maniakes took up the challenge, rallied his forces, and sailed off to topple the tyrant. But the tyrant would use every means at his disposal--fair or most hideously foul--to destroy the crusading upstart. And even if Maniakes could stay alive, he would still have to pull together a battered, divided land as well as fend off a host of enemies--and thwart the former friend who had become his empire's most deadly foe!
