Franklin Delano Roosevelt, nicknamed FDR, has been named one of the greatest Presidents in history. Despite his disability due to Polio, he over came many obstacles no one thought he could. Being wheelchair bound, no one expected him to ever be able to stand due to paralysis of the waist down. With the assistance of leg braces, he was able to stand and make the speeches he needed throughout his political career. As President, he established many laws, some of which are still used today. This biography had some details on his life as president and as a politician, and talks about his actions with WWII. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but I feel as though it could have gone into better detail on some things he accomplished as President. This book has inspired me to look more into what FDR accomplished in life and as President. I hope teachers will use this book to inspire young children to make a difference in our world. ( ) This book is a somewhat of a short biography of his life. It is not too detailed due to the audience, 7th graders and above, but it does detail the major events in his life. It starts off with his discovery of polio and his struggles through it. It then goes in detail about his privileged childhood, to his family life, and his path to politics. He started as a governor and made his way to presidency, where he passed the iconic “New Deal” legislation. It also discusses many of the important decisions he made during WWII. The last chapter details his final days with a cerebral hemorrhage at age 63 before the war ended. This book is also vital for students today because many plans and ideas implemented by the Roosevelt administration are in effect today. His administration helped kick-start a lot of welfare and social services programs that millions use in dire times. The book is also complemented with a nice timeline of his life, along with other important world events during that time. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
