It was too wordy for me, and launches off into too many in depth descriptions that I'm not really interested in. It didn't move fast enough for me, even towards the end. Read in 2011 - pre-Goodreads. Review 12.01.17 - I really enjoyed this first Temperance Brennan novel. Very interesting detail about dead bodies and that continues throughout the series. It isn't like the TV show - I believe on the TV show, these are the books that Temperance Brennan writes about a forensic anthropologist named Kathy Reichs. As I continued the series (at least so far in the first few books) they began to be repetitive - same plot, different characters, different settings. It seemed like someone Tempe knew would be killed or almost killed each and every book. Therefore, I've spaced out the time between the books so it still feels fresh. I picked this book up because I really like the Bones TV show and I was expecting something different than what I got. Even though it was different, I still enjoyed this book. If you take it away from the Bones series and think of it as a different entity the book is pretty good. I liked the television series made from the Temperance Brennan series. So much so I decided to try the first book. I mean, I liked the tv series, I like forensic investigation type books, of course I'll like the books, right? I couldn't get past the decisions made by the main character. And the personality. The belief that all men looked down on her, were out to get her, and didn't think she was smart enough because she is a woman. Her decision to dress up like a hooker and go out late at night without backup, without telling a soul what she was doing, without a weapon (it has been so long since I read the book, I do not actually recall if she did or didn't bring a gun) so that she could solve the mystery herself without 'needing' male help. I liked the character on the tv show. After reading this book I had to stop watching that series. Needless to say, I didn't try another book in this series, though I'm sure my issues with it might have been resolved if I continued. There are just so much time in life and so many books, though. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

The book-Tempe Brennan is totally different from the tv version (which I sort of expected, but don't dislike). She makes some silly choices and is a bit 'laissez-faire', but apart from those slight lapses, she's a strong an interesting character. Can hardly wait to read the rest. (
