We live in a transition period where new modes of thinking and models of doing are being drafted in an effort to develop a better lifestyle for everyone. In this process ideologies from the past and present systems all play a role in influencing our decisions. The importance of finding appropriate models that will suit our context demands cognisance of past and present mistakes. This book considers the main ideas of the 20th century that influenced us in South Africa and elsewhere. Can we avoid future totalitarian schemes, are there guidelines for truth, unity and a good societal life? These and other issues are considered with reference to examples from the South African scene.
