Cain is a young aristocrat with a penchant for mysteries, murder and poison. Arguably the heir apparent for the Hargreaves, despite rumors of his insane father's continued survival, Cain is always aware of his cursed legacy and struggles to protect his 10 year old half-sister, who is more inclined to seek out her own trouble than stay at home and learn to be a debutant. However, danger lurks in every dark corner of the London streets and little is held sacred, not even the innocence of youth. This was a much darker, more horror oriented manga than I expected, but it was still wickedly enjoyable. Cain is a wonderful anti-hero type and you can never be sure exactly what lengths he will go to in an effort to ensure the protection of those close to him. The story itself is quite episodic and this volume covers at least three mysteries along with a flashback to when Cain first appointed Riff as his manservant (I still can't help but think of Riff Raff from The Rocky Horror Picture Show whenever I read the name, despite the fact that this Riff looks nothing like that Raff LOL!) In addition, this is apparently a take off series of a prior one the manga-ka wrote years ago. But, you shouldn't let this stop you from picking this up because the manga does a superb job of bringing you up to date without dragging the story down. I've never read the previous series and was still able to understand the ins and outs of the story. Cain reminds me a bit of the new Sherlock Holmes, flirtatious, irreverent and still serious, he is loyal only to his servant and his sister, and he is willing to do just about anything to solve whatever mystery is on his plate at the time. The drawings were well done and in places, creepy to the extreme. It is obvious this manga-ka does a lot of research on the things that influence her stories and it comes out not only in the writing, but also in the drawings. A very engrossing start to an interesting looking series and I'm looking forward to reading more. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
