There are very few recipes or books for Sicilian cooking. This book includes dialy meals as well as special holiday recipes.Everything from antipasto to gelato! This would be better in hardcover for use during cooking. The softcover has very good binding, but not very convenient for use during cooking. Excellent quality book. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
This gem is more than just a cookbook. Walk through history with Pomp and Sustenance author May Simeti as she shares the secrets and eccentricities of Sicilian cuisine. Nowhere is cultural convergence more evident than in Sicily's regional culinary traditions and food culture. Simeti narrates this centuries-long journey, with wit and humor, making this historical cookbook a joy to own and use. More than just history, Pomp and Sustenance is filled with wonderful recipes. impressive in their style, scope, and authenticity. There are chapters dedicated to street food, convent food, and the peasant's food, giving the reader a taste of the diversity of ingredients and cooking methods found on the Island. I don't envision myself actually making any of these dishes (but then, who knows?), but I certainly know what I am going to order on my next visit to Sicily's many wonderful restaurants. Heartily recommended as reading material for any planned trip to Sicily. ( )
