Plays dating from the early part of the 20th century, all before WWII, including some well known classics such as Miss Julie and Waiting for Lefty Many of them read strangely to a 21st century reader accustomed to the expectations of a stripped down theatre; the long speeches and abundant exposition sound strange and forced in many ways. Still, it is an interesting bit of history, and many of these plays would work on stage today, at least if the directors ignored the rather elaborate sets envisioned by the authors, difficult to do in an evening of one acts. Overall, a good read, though not a particularly fast one. As usual in such an anthology, there are duds and groaners, things that leave you wondering why on earth anyone would have included that. ( ) Plays include: the Man Who Married a Dumb Wife; Miss Julie; Salome; the Rising of the Moon; the Boor; 12 Pound Look; the Green Cockatoo; a Miracle of St. Antony; the Monkey's Paw; the Little Man; Riders to the Sea; a Sunny Morning; a Night at an Inn; the Dear Departed; the Drums of Oude; Helena's Husband; Suppressed Desires; the Game of Chess; Lithuania; the Valiant; in the Zone; If Men Played Cards as Women Do; Another Way Out; the Clod; Aria Da Capo; Overtones; Fumed Oak; Waiting for Lefty; Hello out There; Bury the Dead sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

She's a hell-raising rock princess on the run. He's a sexy undercover cop who's got her in his sights. Together, they're about to make beautiful music. Black leather skirt. Spiked blond hair. And a smile to stop a man cold. She's Riley Callahan, the hell-on-wheels daughter of a rock superstar. When her famous father flees the country to avoid a tax evasion charge, Riley turns government freelancer to support herself--and is soon accused of leaking confidential information to the criminal underworld. That's why U.S. marshal Charlie Zap is hot on her trail. He's trying to stick close like a pair of skintight jeans, but follwing the ultimate party girl requires quick thinking and fancy footwork. So what if this hunk in biker boots happens to be in the right place at the right time to save her life? Riley may not think she needs any help, but if she even tries to clear her father's name, her new babysitter's coming along for the ride. Who would have guessed that they'd end up cruising the country together in a pink Cadillac--visiting Zap's endearing family and mixing with Elvis clones at Graceland? Soon enough, the biggest shock is what Zap's doing to Riley's heart. "From the Paperback edition." Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
