Die in diesem kleinen Band gesammelten Geschichten sind zwar teilweise recht amüsant (nur mit "Das Vermächtnis des Maître Mussard" konnte ich überhaupt nichts anfangen) erreichen aber zu keinem Zeitpunkt das Niveau von anderen Werken Süskinds. (

The first story "Der Zwang zur Tiefe" actually gets 5 stars from me. But maybe that's because I'll never forget the first time I ever heard it. I didn't read it, a friend read it to us at a camp. And the fact that she's the best storyteller I know, forever burned this story into my head. I have read it countless times since then and whenever I do I feel transported back to that night in front of the campfire, hearing that tragic yet funny story about a women misunderstood by the people around her who ends up flying over a cornfield... (

Der Zwang zur Tiefe: Eine junge Frau aus Stuttgart, die schön zeichnete, bekam bei ihrer ersten Ausstellung von einem Kritiker, der nichts Böses meinte und sie fördern wollte, gesagt: "Es ist begabt und ansprechend, was Sie machen, aber Sie haben noch zu wenig Tiefe."

Ein Kampf: An einem frühen Abend im August, als die meisten Menschen den Park bereits verlassen hatten, sassen sich im Pavillon an der Nordwestecke des Jardin du Luxembourg noch zwei Männer am Schachbrett gegenüber, deren Partie von einem guten Dutzend Zuschauer mit so gespannter Aufmerksamkeit verfolgt wurde, dass, obwohl die Stunde des Aperitifs schon näher rückte, niemand auf den Gedanken gekommen wäre, die Szene zu verlassen, ehe der Kampf sich nicht entschieden hätte.

Das Vermächtnis des Maître Mussard: Diese wenigen Blätter sind bestimmt für einen mir unbekannten Leser und für ein späteres Geschlecht, das den Mut hat, die Wahrheit zu sehen, und die Kraft besitzt, sie zu ertragen.
