I thought "Eyes of the Hammer" started slow and then began rolling just before halfway in the story. The planning and getting ready to go out on a mission was redundant at times but told it like it was. Once I got to the halfway point, I couldn't put the book down. Dave Riley and his female partner from the CIA are a force to be reckoned with. Mr. Mayer gave readers an in depth view of how treacherous the cartels in Columbia are. Their value of life is meaningless and money is everything. Although this is the first Dave Riley book that I've read, I've also read several other books from this author. He is good at keeping readers in suspense and surprising them. Quite honestly, I was surprised to see how the 3rd mission came out because of my attachment to those characters. I will continue reading this author's work and look forward to the excitement they cause. Thank you, Bob Mayer, keep them coming!.

Mayer’s knowledge of military protocol as well as all the tools of the trade supplements the details of this interesting premise. A conspiracy between opposing Colombian parties commences a Special Forces operation against drug lords. When the conspiracy turns against the American forces, Special Forces warrant officer Riley turns assassin to save the day. The detailed information about the process of Special Forces teams creates believable scenarios. The action is non-stop, sure to keep the reader with the book until the end. Do not look for a love story here.

I thoroughly enjoyed the fast pace and the detailed look at military life. I recommend it for readers of military suspense. I already have the next in the series. ( )
