Jacob Martin is a talented young man, and I expect to see great things from him in the future, however this collection of works is a little too early to publication. It reads like a collection of papers written for High school English or creative writing. I would expect most of them to get an A/B in High School and maybe a C in College English, and doesn't pass muster for publication.

Besides needing better editing and revision, I felt like I was being preached to all the time. The conversations were filled with exposition; explicitly stating everything the author believes in order to make sure the reader doesn't miss it.

Most of the conversations between characters were unbelievable. Situations of convenience would show up constantly. You’re always ‘told’ what’s going on not ‘shown’. Most of the stories read like scripts for a Saturday morning cartoon (and I think they would make great cartoons).

I liked the possibilities presented in the writings but was very unimpressed with the execution. Keep trying Jacob, but you’re going to have to try harder.

You can’t make anyone accept you for you; you can only learn to accept yourself. ( )

There is an old proverb that goes something like - with age comes wisdom. To some extent I do believe it is true, but age doesn't drag talent along with it. Talent is something that is innate in certain individuals, the author of this book may not have age and the wisdom it may or may not bring but he does have talent.
This volume is a mixed bag of stories, some seem a bit long and overly conscientious and some are simply fun and a very good read. In particular I would like to point out the last two stories in this book, they take place in Toonworld, and without giving anything away, are wonderfully interesting and imaginative especially to those of us that have a 'thing' for animators!
Overall Small Worlds won't change the world but it does give a glimpse at greater things that I am sure will come from Mr. Martin. ( )

As an author writing a review of his own book, you know I'm biased, but hear me out. You can choose whether or not to believe what I say about my book, which is that you might like my take on the Fantasy Genre, with Modern Era twists that will amuse and inform about the age we live in.

You may or may not believe that it is worth the 4 stars I'm giving it (losing 1 star as this is my early, yet mostly good work, my "Tribute to Alan Moore's Beard" is a bit weak and I tend to tell, not show in some stories) but you'll have to read the book for yourself won't you? ( )
