I really enjoyed this book because I could relate to how Andul acted throughout the book. Whenever you're excited about something you rush through things and not focusing on the task at hand. Abdul sells oranges at the market, but he is looking forward to a parade and going to school. He accidentally drops some oranges one day and didn't have enough oranges on another day. This book does a great job showing how important patience is in life. ( )

I enjoyed reading this book because I felt like many children may have problems like Abdul. In this book, the main character Abdul had to sell oranges in order to earn money to go back to school. In the beginning he was very impatient because his oranges weren't selling and his dream of going back to school was less likely to happen. I feel like many students who are struggling financially may relate to this book because they become frustrated that they don't have money or clothes such as other kids. I feel like this book teaches children to be patient and things will get better. Things definitely got better for Abdul when he finally raised enough money by the help of his father's money to go back to school. I think this book's message can apply to everyone whether they're young children or adults because financial hardship happens to many people. This book teaches its readers to not give up and to believe that things will get better. ( )

This is a book about a little boy who needs to sell oranges in order to pay for school. In the book, he is frustrated because no one is buying his oranges and he is worried that he'll never be able to go back to school. His family keeps telling him, "Abdul, be patient. The money will come." and keeps sending his younger sister to the markets with him, which frustrates him even more. Eventually Abdul grows and learns to be patient and the money does come. ( )

Abdul is a young boy who lives in Sierra Leonne. Abdul sells oranges downtown so he can afford his school fees and go to school. Every day it's very hard to sell oranges and Abdul is not making enough money. Eventually, his father gives Abdul money that he earned from the taxi so he can go to school. Everybody is now happy, especially Abdul. ( )

This is a wonderful example of realistic fiction becasue it follows a realistic story of a young boy in Sierra Leon who has to sell oranges in order pay his fees and go to school. Abdul, the young boy, is a round protagonist who grows through out the book and learns to be patient and ends up earning enough money to go back to school. Setting is also hugely important as the book gives us a glimpse of everyday life in Africa. ( )
