This book tells you what it was like to live in the New England colonies during the years 1565 to 1776. I enjoyed this book because it provides detailed information that allows for one to reflect on colonial times in new England. It was published in 1992, however, the colonial period started in 1607 and lasted until 1776. The traditional aspect of this book is affective in the sense that each page begins by asking a question such as "What books did children read?" or "What happened if you were sick?" These questions are answered in a way that grants readers with better understanding of the colonial times. The information discussed does not require readers to have background knowledge on this particular period of time, which is beneficial simply because the book answers any basic questions one might have on this specific topic. On another hand, the illustrations are sketched and are lightly shaded, which fits the tone of the book considering the illustrator was reflecting back on a time in history. They also tell a story themselves, which supports the purpose of effective picture books. I really like this book! First, plot is organized and creative. The book is all about what it would be like to live in Colonial Times. For example, it asks questions such as, "Was there a special time for making clothes?" The author then answer the question for the reader. Second, the illustrations are simple, but fit with the text well. For example, on the page about education the author includes only one simple picture, but it fits with the text. The main idea of this book is to educate readers about colonial times. I liked this book because of its informative illustrations. They do a great job explaining the text and adding details that help you really imagine what you’re reading. For example, the author writes that babies in this time wore puddings “a soft pillow worn around the baby’s middle to keep him from getting hurt.” Then there is a picture of a baby falling wearing a pudding to show you exactly how it was worn. Also, the questions are answered in a way that is appropriate for the age level. They get the important information across while making it sound fun and interesting. Instead of just stating the facts, each page starts by asking a question. They utilize “you” a lot as if they are asking the reader what they would actually do if they live at this time. One page asks, “How did people get the news?” It then goes on to explain how each town had a town crier. They describe the job since this is not like anything we have today. The main idea in this book is to give readers a sense of what life was like during the colonial times. They can compare and contrast it to their lives today to imagine what it would be like to live back then. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
