I rather liked this Regency Romance. Mary Anne Judson becomes involved with her well meaning but larcenous uncle's plans to make off with a smuggled silk shipment, and the family comes against a handsome mysterious man, Mr. Robertson, who seems intent on finding it at all costs. Of course this doesn't stop feelings from developing between the two, or this wouldn't be a Regency Romance. The heroine, Mary Anne, is rather refreshing, as even though she faces more tense circumstances than most, she manages well without falling into that annoyingly plucky and independent yet somehow still prone to fits of tears stereotype. She's quite believable, especially for her time. If I had to criticize the book, though, I do think the ending was a bit rushed and wrapped up things before one could really tell what was going on. But the plot had been well set up for this for the whole book, so it was still believable. I think I just wanted more time with the story! ( )
