Fun fluff series that gets less and less fluff over time. ( )

Cassie debates with Rachel about swimwear while loading her dad's truck with goods to be donated to charity. At the last minute she notices a tiny space ship, perhaps 5" long, attached to the iron pump outside her house. After a little tugging - must be magnetic - she throws it in the back.

The pump happens to be right over where Cassie has hidden the morphing cube, but that doesn't come up until later. It turns out that Cassie has interfered in Helmachron business. Helmachrons are a race of tiny, tiny aliens with enormous egos who feel it is their destiny to conquer the Yeerks, Andalites, and humanity. The book is very silly, often funny, but it doesn't gel well with the rest of the series.

This also has a weird feeling to it. It wasn't that 'The Suspicion' was mostly about a ridiculous situation, it was that the narrator, ostensibly Cassie, didn't have Cassie's voice. Except for a piece in the beginning and end where her personality asserts itself about clothes and ethics the voice was so neutral it could have been any of the Animorphs. It didn't help that there was a typo in my edition where the narrator (Cassie) says the team were headed towards "Cassie's farm". And Cassie is not Bob Dole (90s!), so....

Ridiculous premise, but amusing anyway. The Animorphs team encounters a new type of alien- tiny little things that haughtily declare their superiority and intentions to take over the world (they're offended when they find out the Yeerks are already trying to do so) and everyone scoffs at them until the little aliens get hold of the blue box that contains the morphing technology, and use it to shrink others, so they can overpower them. Most of the storyline is Cassie and Marco experiencing what it's like to be a creature small enough to see individual cells (because they shrink again from being quarter-inch-high humans to being literally microscopic when they morph into flies) while they and the others try to thwart the tiny aliens and retrieve the blue box. Crazy ridiculous chase scene involving a speeding limousine and a toy-sized flying spaceship, while normal traffic seems to notice nothing. Pretty clever how Cassie and Marco redirected the aliens' attention onto their enemy Visser Three. Odd closing scene where the Visser had them in his power but the standoff resulting in each side giving up the others they held captive. Which means the struggle can continue, I suppose. The cover shows Cassie morphing into an anteater- the new animal acquired in this book- but it happened at the very end, and although solved their problem with the tiny aliens, there wasn't really much about experiencing that animal form. Which is what I've previously liked about this series, but oh well.

A short comment for every book of the series until I get a chance to re-read them. All three of my sons and I loved this series and read every single book - I even bought every single book (most, but not all, used; some through school book sales). I'm excited to re-read them to see how the five main characters develop and to watch all the different transformations again. ( )
