A classic and really delightful Poirot case, full of scheming suspects and red herrings and all that good Christie stuff! This one is more of a thinker and has less action but that doesn't make it any less fun. Take a shot every time Hastings thinks he knows more than Poirot and you'll have a great drinking game to play while reading, too. ( )

Excellent Poirot and Hastings whodunnit, set solely in London with a dizzying range of possibilities for the murderer. Not very long; ideal for a train journey! ( )

It was clearly Miss Carroll's idea that murderers were only committed by drunken members of the lower classes. ( )

I am uncertain if this is a 3.5 or 4 star rated novel. I just went with 4 in deference to Agatha Christie. There is not a whole lot anyone can really say about these Poirot novels that has not already been said. It is also very important to not give away any spoilers, whatsoever.

I enjoyed this novel - I think some of the observations about people and their personalities/psychology are interesting and insightful. The story didn't quite interest me - the marriages of actresses will never grab my attention. Hastings begins to be a bit more aggravated and frustrated with Poirot - and voices these sentiments a bit more. Japp, of course, is a hoot.
