Daphne always loved the way Peter told their story. How they met, fell in love, and moved back to his hometown to begin their life together. Too bad it turned out to be more of a prequel to Peter's actual love story with his childhood best friend, Petra. So that's how Daphne's next chapter starts - stranded in a too-small town, propositioning Petra's heartbroken ex to move in. As roommates of course. A temporary solution until she gets a new job literally anywhere else. Miles is the exact opposite to Daphne, and it's mostly just unbearably awkward until one drunken night. A tenuous friendship formed, Miles convinces her to give this idyllic town one last summer - he'll show her why he loves it and if they happen to post deliberately misleading photos of their adventures together, so be it. But as Daphne starts to fall for the town, she is faced with a question: is Miles an interlude in her great love story with Peter or was Peter was just a footnote to that time she fell in love with her ex-fiance's new fiance's ex boyfriend?… (mais)

So, funny story. I have never been a fan of romantic comedies. Maybe because I have never found the right one? Emily Henry took me by surprise as this was the first book of hers I have decided to give a try. Truth be told, I am now buying ALL of her books!

I loved everything about Funny Story! The characters were lovable and relatable. The main character’s love story was not overdone, but heartwarming. Daphne sucked me into the story and I became invested in her story. I cheered for her, wanted to comfort her in her downs, and I screamed for her happy ending with Myles. A book has never made me feel so many emotions before, and this story actually made me laugh. 100% hope everyone gives it a chance! ( )

5 Stars for Funny Story by Emily Henry!

Funny Story follows Daphne, who is dumped just days before her wedding because her fiancé Peter, decides that he is in love with his childhood best friend, Petra. Daphne, heartbroken and stranded in the picturesque town of Waning Bay, Michigan where she knows only Peter and his friends, becomes roommates with the only person who could understand her predicament—Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak. And so the story begins… 😊

I absolutely loved Funny Story! 🫶
The story is filled with witty banter and laugh-out-loud moments that kept me entertained from start to finish. The characters are relatable and funny, each with their unique quirks that make them endearing and memorable. The journey of Daphne and Miles is one that many can relate to, filled with moments of self-discovery, personal growth, and the joy of finding love in the most unexpected places.

What I adore most about Emily Henry's books is that they are the perfect blend of humor and heart and they don’t demand too much brainpower, making it the ideal escape. 🙌🙌🙌 It's entertainment at its finest! ( )

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the audiobook for "Funny Story," which swept me off my feet! The narrator's performance was exceptional, bringing out not only the humor but also the profound relatability of the story. As a fan of Emily Henry's previous work, I can wholeheartedly declare this one of my all-time favorites.

The characters, Daphne and Miles, are incredibly authentic and endearing. Each one of them feels beautifully real, and it's impossible not to become deeply invested in their journey. Daphne, a librarian, and Miles, a man of many talents, find themselves drawn together in the most unexpected way when their respective exes become an item. Their emotional rollercoaster will have you laughing and shedding tears, as they navigate the humorous twists and turns in their narrative. ( )

This might be my favorite of Emily Henry's books. I haven't loved them all, Book Lovers was my past favorite. There aren't ridiculous miscommunications here, just normal working out of feelings. The characters and friendships that developed here were the best part. ( )

When Daphne’s fiancé falls in love with his childhood best friend and tells Daphne she has a week to find somewhere else to live, she ends up moving in with her ex’s new girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, Miles.

This is more of a roommates romance than a fake-dating romance, although she and Miles do pretend that they’re a couple on a few brief occasions when they run into Peter. But the main reason she and Miles spend time together outside their apartment is because Miles offers to be her tour guide, introducing Daphne to people and places in their lakeside town unassociated with her ex.

It’s the sort of story Henry writes well -- a woman with a bookish profession (Daphne is a children’s librarian) exploring a holiday-ish destination and meeting new people, while she reflects on and reevaluates her relationships. (How they’ve shaped her. What she is and isn’t responsible for. How she wants to approach them differently in the future.)

I enjoyed the sense of community, the banter between the main characters and the portrayal of friendships, and I really liked the way Daphne and Miles support each other.

(I didn’t like the references to people taking recreational drugs but uhhh, that’s just me and my idiosyncratic reactions.)
“Plus I know basically nothing about you, so this was a good chance to find out if your house is full of surveillance equipment.”
I blink. “Surveillance equipment?”
“Landon and I have been taking bets on whether you’re in the FBI,” she provides helpfully.
I squint at her. “And you think I’m in the FBI because …?”
I don’t,” she says. “Landon does. My guess is witness protection.”
There’s being bad at small talk, and then there’s being so reticent that your coworkers assume you’ve recently testified against a mob boss, and I never knew how thin the line between the two was.
