The theme for this book is about finding your own identity. Ugly is not like the other ducks and does everything different so his mom decides to leave him behind. Ugly duckling has to find his own way. ( )

Touching retelling of "The Ugly Duckling." The animals seem to behave like animals, except for the fact that they can all talk to each other. They even understand what humans say. Whether ducks and wombats ever become friends is not something I know, but stranger friendships have happened. Ugly is able to forgive being abandoned by his mother and siblings; perhaps he understands that he would not have survived if he had stayed with them. We never find out how a swan egg ended up in a nest of duck eggs, but we do learn a lot about animal behavior. ( )

This is a version of the ugly duckling that goes so far as using ducks in the story. Once the baby hatches from a green egg he is made fun of by the other residents of the pond. The duck sets out to make a friend on the advice of his mother and a series of adventures follows.

The story was predictable and well written. This remake of a classic tale will delight young readers.

An extension for this book would be a grand conversation about friends and tolerance of others differences.

This is the clasic story of the ugly duckling. The story is told by the ugly duckling himself. He meets many friends when he make the journey away from his family.
This story is eliquently written. It makes you feel as if you are really seeing the story unfold. It pulled at my heart strings and made me laugh throughout the book.
This book has a lot of teaching and learning opportunities. Children will learn to appriciate all types of people no matter what their outer apperance may be.Teachers and parents need to focus on the values taught in this book.

Ugly is the tale of the ugly duckling told in the first person by "Ugly". His mother loves him but can't defend him and finally tells him to go North and find a friend. This tale is set in Tasmania and Ugly befriends many indigenous animals.
