"The murder of a political bigwig at a Honey Bee Tea sends Theodosia Browning buzzing for answers in this latest installment of the New York Times bestselling series. Theodosia's Honey Bee Tea was an elegant affair set in Charleston's new Petigru Park amid newly planted native grasses and a community beekeeping project. But when a phony beekeeper shows up and sprays toxic smoke at the guests, the party erupts in chaos. Worse yet, a shot rings out and Osgood Claxton III, candidate for state legislature, falls to the ground-dead. Holly Burns, the gallery owner who asked Theodosia to cater the tea, is understandably heartbroken. A man is dead, her guests are angry and injured, and the paintings that were on display are left in tatters. When the police don't seem to have a clue, when old-line politicos don't want questions asked, Holly begs Theodosia to run a shadow investigation and help restore her gallery's good name. Between hosting a Wind in the Willows Tea and a Glam Girl Tea, Theodosia questions everyone that had a bone to pick with Claxton. This includes Booker, an angry outsider artist; Lamar Lucket, Claxton's political opponent; and Mignon Merriweather, the dead man's soon-to-be ex-wife. But the investigation becomes a political hot potato following a second murder, the revelation of a messy affair, a chase through a swamp, and a vandalized shop"--… (mais)

Another great installment in the A Tea Shop Mystery series. I love the relationship that Theo, Drayton, and Hayley have with each other. The tea shop runs like a well oiled machine, even when a monkey wrench is thrown in the mix. I was not able to guess who the killer before the reveal but it made perfect sense when revealed. Looking forward to reading more Tea Shop adventures in the future. ( )

Unlike another recent cozy mystery I read that had honey in the title, this cozy mystery features a HoneyBee Tea, several recipes that incorporate honey, as well as tea shop food that features honey. The honey chicken recipe sounds interesting and I might try it at some point.

I didn't guess who the murderer was. (That's my norm, so you're experience may vary.) I'm not sure we had enough clues to point to the murderer until close to the end. I do feel bad for Holly--she made some poor choices and now, who knows what will happen with her business. I hope Theodosia is correct that Holly can turn it around.

This entry to the series was slightly better than more recent ones as far as Theodosia's attitude and her not running off from the tea shop quite so often (leaving it to others to run while she's gone). ( )

Honey Drop Dead was published earlier this week on August 8, 2023. I had pre-ordered an ebook from my local library and read the book as soon as it hit my screen. In this 26th installment of the Indigo Teashop Series our heroine Theodosia Browning is catering a specialty tea for Charleston’s Imago Gallery at Petigru Park. The park has plenty of native grasses and a community beekeeping project. During the event, a fully suited up beekeeper showed up and sprayed toxic smoke at all of the guests. Then a gunshot was heard and Osgood Claxton III, a candidate for the state legislature, fell to the ground dead. Theodosia saw the beekeeper run away from the scene and ran after him. She couldn't catch him though. The next day Holly Burns, the owner of Imago Gallery, asks Theodosia to investigate the matter. Not only did someone get killed but several paintings were destroyed by the fumes that were sprayed and artists were cancelling their contracts with the gallery. As is usual with the series, almost everyone in Charleston disliked the deceased and leaving Theodosia with a long list of suspects to look into.

The story started out with a bang, pun intended. The murder happened early in the first chapter and wasn't solved until the final chapter, leaving alot of pages for plot twists. The deceased was a politician who everyone hated, including his wife. This gave Theo many more than the usual number of suspects to investigate and, as a result, more plot twists for the reader to enjoy. The pace was much faster than other books in the series. Was that due to the complex plot or the absence of secondary character involvement? I am not sure. I am glad, though, that I did not have to hear about Delaine Dish. She is an obnoxious character that I cannot stand. Even baker Haley had only a short mention albeit one which landed her under arrest. Theo, tea sommelier Drayton, and Riley, Theodosia's new policeman boyfriend, were the only main characters returning in Honey Drop Dead. All of the others were new to the series which I think is a plus. When a series is as long as this one, it is nice to upset the applecart every now and then. ( )

Honey Drop Dead by Laura Childs is the twenty-sixth A Tea Shop Mystery. This is one of the two series that got me hooked on cozy mysteries. I look forward to each new installment. Honey Drop Dead is well-written with developed characters. Theo, Drayton, and Hayley are busy at the Indigo Tea Shop plus they have several special events including the Honey Bea Tea. Theodosia Browning is a smart, friendly, and caring woman. She has good business instincts plus Theo has a knack for solving crimes. I enjoyed the description of the Honey Bea Tea. It sounded lovely until someone used the event for nefarious purposes. I found myself quickly drawn into the story. The mystery was thought out. The way the murder was carried out was certainly unique. I liked that there was action and suspense throughout. I had fun following Theo and Drayton as they worked to solve the crime. I like that Drayton accompanies Theo on sleuthing forays. I get tired of Riley, Theo’s beau, telling her to keep her nose out of the investigation. He should know by now that Theo has no intention of sitting on the sidelines. I would love to see Theo get a new boyfriend (someone who understands her curious nature). The whodunit had a good wrap up at the end. I delighted in catching up with Theo, Drayton, Hayley, Miss Dimple, and Earl Grey. There are delectable descriptions of Hayley’s creations and Drayton’s tasty tea blends. Theo comes up with creative ideas for the special tea events. I enjoyed my latest visit to Charleston and the Indigo Tea Shop (and I look forward to returning soon). While Honey Drop Dead is the twenty-sixth A Tea Shop Mystery, the author does provide the needed background information on the main characters for new readers. Personally, I have enjoyed reading the series from the beginning. I like that Honey Drop Dead gave us something different. Honey Drop Dead is a diverting tale with a malicious smoker, scrumptious scones, gallery quandaries, tasty teas, an excess of suspects, and an intrepid Theo. ( )
