If you thought you learned more about the dangerous and sexy alpha vampire, Bones, in the USA Today bestselling scorcher, THE OTHER HALF OF THE GRAVE, you haven't seen anything yet... Cat disappeared from Bones' life to protect him, but this Master vampire will keep his promise to find her. Two hundred years of bounty hunting made Bones the best at what he does, yet it's still taken him four long years to find Cat, the half vampire now known as the "Red Reaper." There's a price on Cat's head, and not even her job as a secret government agent can save her. Only Bones can. But has time hardened Bones too much to love again? Or will his passion for Cat burn through every obstacle-alive, undead, or otherwise-between them? From the New York Times bestselling author of the Night Huntress series comes a fresh, new perspective on the origin saga of Cat and Bones, in Bones' own wordsâ?¦ "Cat and Bones are combustible together." - Charlaine Harris "Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Anne Rice fans" - Apple Boo… (mais)

Both Feet in the Grave
Night Huntress, Book 9

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

Media Type: Audiobook
Source: Netgalley
Dates Read: 5/12/23 - 5/15/23
Stars: 4
Narrator(s): Will M Watt

The Characters:

Cat Crawfield:
Bones:
Denise, Denise’s Husband whose name I can’t remember, Cat’s mother, some villains

The Story:

I love Cat and Bones so much. I'm really enjoying re-exploring this series from Bones' perspective. I forgot so much of this second story. Maybe because I can’t stand the thought of Bones and Cat being apart.

Bones is such a great character. Cat is no slouch either.

I loved this book! I have been a huge fan of this series for a very long time. I have read the original books in the series twice so I know the story. I had no idea how much I needed Bones’s point of view. But apparently, I did. I started this book in the afternoon and did not put it down. I clung to every word because even though I already knew the story, I didn’t know how Bones saw things.

I would recommend reading this series in order. This is the second book from Bones’s point of view which mirrors One Foot in the Grave which is the same basic story but from Cat’s perspective. At the start of the book, Cat and Bones are apart and I had assumed that it was a tough time for both of them but actually seeing what Bones was going through broke my heart a bit. There were some pretty exciting scenes and I loved seeing just what Bones thought during some pivotal moments.

Will Watt did an amazing job with the audiobook. I think that his voice suits Bones’s character perfectly and I loved how he was able to bring this story to life. I thought that his voice was very pleasant and he added the perfect about of emotion to his reading. This is an audiobook that I know I will be listening to again in the not-so-distant future. I am positive that his narration added to my overall enjoyment of the story.

I would highly recommend this book to others. I loved getting to see a story that I already love from a different perspective. I had such a great time getting to spend a few hours with characters that I have loved for years. I cannot wait to read more of Jeaniene Frost’s work.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Nancy Yost Literary Agency (NYLA). ( )

Both Feet in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
Night Huntress #8. Aka #2.5 IMO, One Foot in the Grave from Bones POV. Vampire stories with romance.
It’s taken Bones four long years to find Cat. While searching, he also accepted kill orders where she was the target. Of course, he went after the payer rather than Cat, because he can’t have anyone actually harm her! And he has to convince his own maker that Cat shouldn’t be ended. Bones has quite a task list to keep Cat alive.

I absolutely love reading Bones POV. We were told he loved Cat. But he also beat her to unconsciousness during training! Yes I have a hard time getting over those scenes from book 1. After listening to the two books in his POV, I am so happy or actually feel his love.

🎧 I listened to the story by audiobook narrated by Will Watt. His performance is phenomenal. His voice and accent is exactly what I would want to bring Bones to life. The emotions, the timing, the way the various voices are produced, all factor into believing that Bones really does care for Cat.

The underwear stalking discussion was hilarious. Even Bones couldn’t keep his laughter contained.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and Dreamscape. ( )

Both Feet in the Grave is the second book in Jeanine Frost's retelling of her Night Huntress series as told by Bones. There will be some spoilers here so stop reading if you haven't read the first book (from Cat or Bones' points of view) in the series.

This is one of the early series that was my introduction into the paranormal romance genre. After the cliffhanger events at the end of the first book where Bones and Cat are parted, originally the series picked up with Cat telling the story. I remember being so happy, at the time, that I was late to the game because the second book was already out and I could immediately pick it up. I cannot imagine having to wait. Suffice it to say, this was the book that I was waiting for when Jeanine Frost started giving readers Bones' perspective.

The first book felt too much, for me, like a play by play, just from Bones' point of view. I didn't feel like we were learning anything NEW about the characters that wasn't already established by reading things from Cat's perspective.

Both Feet in the Grave changes all of that because by the start of the book Bones and Cat have been separated for years. Getting Bones' point of view puts a new spin on some of the events. I know that I was most interested in how Bones perceived Cat's absence. We got an in-depth look at how much Bones was effected by the separation and the almost manic way he searched for her.

For me, the most interesting part were the interactions with Annette. Annette was a long-time foil for Cat in the original series having been sired by Bones and has known him for centuries. It was interesting to see the way that Annette - while a valued person in his life - doesn't really register as a romantic partner for Bones. Also, how he has blinders on when it comes to anyone else besides Cat kind of reinforcing the whole idea that this is true love for him. It's something that he hasn't truly experienced before.

In that regard, it means he still doesn't understand the potential animosity that could rear up between Annette and Cat. It was quite funny to see how caught off guard Bones was by this because he's usually so formidable and self-assured. He has a solution for everything, so it puts him out of his element a little bit.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book told from Bones' point of view. I'm hoping Jeanine Frost will continue with the rest of the series in this way. I know, like many fans, there are certain moments that stick out that I would want to get Bones' internal reaction.

I'd say if you are a fan of this series, you'll definitely want to pick this one up. ( )
