Annie Firman, a white South African girl from a well-to-do family is eager to reach adulthood, and to taste forbidden fruit, when the coloured son of her old nanny comes to see her to say goodbye before leaving the country, she seizes the opportunity to defy laws, rules and taboos.A wonderful study of the world of adolescence with all its raw emotion. The book was banned in South Africa when it was published in 1976 but the bann was recinded on appeal in 1984.
